Saturday, June 20 at 7:30—Contemporary Opera Marin

The weekend opens with Contemporary Opera Marin’s production of operatic gems of the 17th and 20th Century. Leonard Bernstein’s early work, Trouble in Tahiti, contains all the musical genius this great American displayed throughout his career in this riveting 50 minute domestic drama. As pertinent today as it was in 1953, it follows the lives of Sam and Dinah, with a doo-wop
trio serving as Greek chorus. The evening opens with
Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Claudio Monteverdi’s 20 minute masterpiece that shows the uncanny parallels of 12th Century Arabia and today.

Sunday, June 21 at 7:30—Voices of Tiburon

The evening’s concert is devoted to the enormous musical talent that serves St. Hilary Church. The program features the world premiere of All Souls, a choral work by music director Vincent Stadlin as well as excerpts from his American Mass, a new work inspired by the election of
Barack Obama. Interspersed are arias performed by the parish soloists as well as a performance by Fr. James Tarantino!

Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30—Tiburon Chamber Players

This evening marks the return of the Tiburon Chamber Players, San Francisco Symphony musicians with southern Marin roots, in beautiful performances of great chamber works by the Viennese masters.

Wednesday, June 24 at 7:30—Four for Piano and Strings (and Flute)

Wednesday evening festival director Paul Smith performs four large scale works for piano and orchestra in their small scale settings for strings (and flute). Vienna is well represented in piano concertos by Mozart, a Beethoven overture and the lush romanticism of famous film composer Erich Korngold.

Thursday, June 25 at 7:30—Voices of Vienna

This concert presents 150 years of Vienna’s vocal tradition in works for voice and orchestra in arrangements for smaller ensembles. Schubert, Mahler, HK Gruber and yes, even Arnold Schönberg come alive in all their sonorous glory in performances by some of the most outstanding singers in Northern California.
